Why they are a saint

The Holy Martyr Procopius was a reader in the Church of Jerusalem. He led a strict ascetic life, for which he received from the Lord the ability to cast out demons. The zealous preacher of the Word of God was arrested and brought to trial in Palestinian Caesarea. Venerated as a martyr who died for the faith in Christ.

Orthodox Christians usually take Procopius the Reader at Caesarea as a patron when they bear the name Procopius at baptism, or were born or baptized near the feast on November 22. As a martyr, he is also asked for courage and faithfulness under trial.
