Why they are a saint

The holy Martyr Publia the Confessor, a deaconess of Antioch, became a widow at a young age and devoted all her strength to raising her son John in the Christian Faith. The Orthodox Church commemorates Publia the Confessor on October 9.

Orthodox Christians usually take Publia the Confessor as a patron when they bear the name Publia at baptism, or were born or baptized near the feast on October 9. As a martyr, she is also asked for courage and faithfulness under trial.
