Why they are a saint

Saint Herman, Archbishop of Kazan, lived during the sixteenth century. He was born in the city of Staritsa, and was descended from the old boyar nobility of the Polevi. Venerated as a hierarch, a bishop who shepherded the Church in holiness.

Orthodox Christians usually take Repose of Saint Herman as a patron when they bear the name Repose at baptism, or were born or baptized near the feast on November 6. As a bishop, he is also remembered by clergy and those who serve the Church.
