Saint John Chrysostom died on September 14, 407, but because of the feast of the Exaltation of the Life-Creating Cross of the Lord, the commemoration of the saint was transferred to November 13. The Orthodox Church commemorates Repose of Saint John Chrysostom on September 14.

Orthodox Christians usually take Repose of Saint John Chrysostom as a patron when they bear the name Repose at baptism, or were born or baptized near the feast on September 14. As a bishop, he is also remembered by clergy and those who serve the Church.
