Why they are a saint

The Hieromartyr Sadoc, Bishop of Persia, and 128 Martyrs with him suffered in Persia under Sapor II. Saint Sadoc was successor of the hieromartyr Simeon (April 17). He once had a dream, in which Saint Simeon told him of his own impending martyric death. Venerated as a hieromartyr, a clergyman who was put to death for the faith in Christ.

Patronage / why chosen as patron

Orthodox Christians usually take Sadoc as a patron when they bear the name Sadoc at baptism, or were born or baptized near the feast on February 20. As a martyr, he is also asked for courage and faithfulness under trial.
