Why they are a saint

Saints Alexander, John and Paul, Constantinople Patriarchs, lived at different times, but each of them happened to clash with the activities of heretics who sought to distort the teachings of the Church. The Orthodox Church commemorates Saints Alexander on August 30.

Patronage / why chosen as patron

Orthodox Christians usually take Saints Alexander as a patron when they bear the name Saints at baptism, or were born or baptized near the feast on August 30. As a bishop, he is also remembered by clergy and those who serve the Church.
