Why they are a saint

Saint Sava II was the third Serbian Archbishop, serving from 1263 until his death in 1271. He was the middle son of King Stefan the First-Crowned of the Nemanjić dynasty and his Byzantine wife Eudokia Angelina. He had two brothers, Stefan Radoslav and Stefan Vladislav, and a sister, Komnena.

Patronage / why chosen as patron

Orthodox Christians usually take Sava II as a patron when they bear the name Sava at baptism, or were born or baptized near the feast on February 21. Serbian Orthodox faithful also honor his as one of their own.
