Why they are a saint
Saint Savva of Krypetsk was tonsured at Athos, and from there he came to Pskov. He began to struggle on Mount Snetna at the monastery of Mother of God near Pskov, and then he went to a more remote spot along the River Tolva, at the monastery of Saint Euphrosynē (May 15). Venerated as a monastic saint, honored for a life of prayer and asceticism.

Orthodox Christians usually take Savva of Pskov as a patron when they bear the name Savva at baptism, or were born or baptized near the feast on August 28. As a monastic, he is also asked for help in prayer, fasting, and repentance.
