Why they are a saint

The Holy Martyr Savva, a Goth, lived during the fourth century. At this time the Arian bishop Wulfilas preached Christianity among the Goths, and Saint Savva was among those who were baptized. Saint Savva led a virtuous life, devout, peaceful, temperate, simple, and quiet. Venerated as a martyr who died for the faith in Christ.

Patronage / why chosen as patron

Orthodox Christians usually take Savva the Goth of Wallachia as a patron when they bear the name Savva at baptism, or were born or baptized near the feast on April 15. As a martyr, he is also asked for courage and faithfulness under trial.
