Why they are a saint

Saint Savva of Moscow succeeded Saint Andronicus as the igumen of the monastery of the Savior, dedicated to the Icon of Christ Not-Made-By Hands (August 16) in 1395. The Orthodox Church commemorates Savva on June 13.

Patronage / why chosen as patron

Orthodox Christians usually take Savva as a patron when they bear the name Savva at baptism, or were born or baptized near the feast on June 13. As a monastic, he is also asked for help in prayer, fasting, and repentance.
