Why they are a saint

The holy monk-martyrs Shio the New, David, Gabriel and Paul labored in the David-Gareji Wilderness at the end of the 17th century. The Orthodox Church commemorates Shio on June 1.

Patronage / why chosen as patron

Orthodox Christians usually take Shio as a patron when they bear the name Shio at baptism, or were born or baptized near the feast on June 1. As a martyr, he is also asked for courage and faithfulness under trial.
