Why they are a saint
The Holy Martyrs Simeon, Isaac and Bachtisius were Christians and lived during the third century in Persia under the emperor Sapor, a fierce persecutor of Christians. The Orthodox Church commemorates Simeon on May 18.
Patronage / why chosen as patron
Orthodox Christians usually take Simeon as a patron when they bear the name Simeon at baptism, or were born or baptized near the feast on May 18. As a martyr, he is also asked for courage and faithfulness under trial.
