Why they are a saint

Saint Simeon of Verkhoturye was a nobleman, but he concealed his origin and led the life of a beggar. He walked through the villages and for free sewed half-coats and other clothes, primarily for the poor. Venerated as righteous, one who pleased God by a holy life in the world.

Patronage / why chosen as patron

Orthodox Christians usually take Simeon as a patron when they bear the name Simeon at baptism, or were born or baptized near the feast on December 18.
