Why they are a saint
Saint Simon of Soiga belonged to the Komel disciples of Saint Sergius of Radonezh. He was born at Solvychegodsk, and was tonsured at the Komel monastery under Saint Cornelius (May 19). Venerated as a monastic saint, honored for a life of prayer and asceticism.
Patronage / why chosen as patron
Orthodox Christians usually take Simon as a patron when they bear the name Simon at baptism, or were born or baptized near the feast on November 24. As a monastic, he is also asked for help in prayer, fasting, and repentance.
