Why they are a saint

He was a Roman soldier, Egyptian by birth, during the reign of the Emperor Maximian. When Solochon refused an imperial command that all soldiers offer sacrifice to the idols, he was was arrested along with two friends and fellow-Christians, Pamphamir and Pamphylon. All three were put to harsh torture, under which Solochon’s two friends died.

Patronage / why chosen as patron

Orthodox Christians usually take Solochon as a patron when they bear the name Solochon at baptism, or were born or baptized near the feast on May 17. As a martyr, he is also asked for courage and faithfulness under trial.
