Why they are a saint
Sophronius of Jerusalem is remembered as Patriarch of Jerusalem. Sophronius, called Sophronius the Sophist was the Greek Patriarch of the city known as Aelia Capitolina and then Jerusalem from 634 until his death. The faithful ask his prayers as they do of the bishops who shepherded the Church.
Patronage / why chosen as patron
Orthodox Christians usually take Sophronius of Jerusalem as a patron when they bear the name Sophronius at baptism, or were born or baptized near the feast on March 11. As a bishop, he is also remembered by clergy and those who serve the Church.
