Why they are a saint

The Martyr Sozontes, a native of Likaonea, was a shepherd. He read the Holy Scriptures attentively, and he loved to share his knowledge about the One God with the shepherds who gathered together with him. He brought many to the faith in Christ and to Baptism. Venerated as a martyr who died for the faith in Christ.

Patronage / why chosen as patron

Orthodox Christians usually take Sozon of Cilicia as a patron when they bear the name Sozon at baptism, or were born or baptized near the feast on September 7. As a martyr, he is also asked for courage and faithfulness under trial.
