Why they are a saint

Stefan Dragutin, was King of Serbia from 1276 to 1282. From 1282, he ruled a separate kingdom which included northern Serbia, and the neighboring Hungarian banates, for which he was unofficially styled "King of Syrmia". He was the eldest son of King Stefan Uroš I of Serbia and Queen Helen.

Patronage / why chosen as patron

Orthodox Christians usually take Stefan Dragutin as a patron when they bear the name Dragutin at baptism, or were born or baptized near the feast on October 30. As a monastic, he is also asked for help in prayer, fasting, and repentance.
