Why they are a saint

He was a disciple of St Theodosius of the Kiev Caves (commemorated May 3), and became abbot of the Monastery of the Caves. The Orthodox Church commemorates Stephen on April 27.

Orthodox Christians usually take Stephen as a patron when they bear the name Stephen at baptism, or were born or baptized near the feast on April 27. As a bishop, he is also remembered by clergy and those who serve the Church.
