Why they are a saint

The Martyrs Straton, Philip, Eutychian and Cyprian suffered at Nicomedia. Visiting the circus, they taught people to abandon their idol-worship, and they converted many pagans to Christ. Venerated as a martyr who died for the faith in Christ.

Patronage / why chosen as patron

Orthodox Christians usually take Straton as a patron when they bear the name Straton at baptism, or were born or baptized near the feast on August 17. As a martyr, he is also asked for courage and faithfulness under trial.
