Why they are a saint

Saint Shushanik (Susanna) was the wife of the Georgian prince Varsken, the ruler of Hereti (a province of southeastern Georgia). The Orthodox Church commemorates Susanna on October 17.

Patronage / why chosen as patron

Orthodox Christians usually take Susanna as a patron when they bear the name Susanna at baptism, or were born or baptized near the feast on October 17. As a martyr, she is also asked for courage and faithfulness under trial.
