Why they are a saint

Venerable Sylvester of Obnora lived in the XIV century and was the contemporary of Saint Alexei, Metropolitan of Moscow, and one of the disciples of Saint Sergius of Radonezh. The Orthodox Church commemorates Sylvester on April 25.

Orthodox Christians usually take Sylvester as a patron when they bear the name Sylvester at baptism, or were born or baptized near the feast on April 25. As a monastic, he is also asked for help in prayer, fasting, and repentance.
