Why they are a saint

The Holy Martyr Synetus (the name is derived from the Greek word meaning “man of reason”) was a Roman by birth, and was a reader in the Roman Church under Pope Sixtus (257-258). The Orthodox Church commemorates Synetus of Rome on December 12.

Patronage / why chosen as patron

Orthodox Christians usually take Synetus of Rome as a patron when they bear the name Synetus at baptism, or were born or baptized near the feast on December 12. As a martyr, he is also asked for courage and faithfulness under trial.
