Why they are a saint

Saint Thais lived in Egypt in the fifth century. Left an orphan after the death of her wealthy parents, she led a pious life, distributing her wealth to the poor, and she gave shelter to pilgrims on her estate.

Patronage / why chosen as patron

Orthodox Christians usually take Thais of Egypt as a patron when they bear the name Thais at baptism, or were born or baptized near the feast on May 10.
