Why they are a saint

Saint Thalassius of Syria lived during the fifth century. At a young age he withdrew to a hill near the village of Targala and passed 38 years there in monastic deeds, having neither a roof over his head, nor any cell nor shelter. Venerated as a monastic saint, honored for a life of prayer and asceticism.

Patronage / why chosen as patron

Orthodox Christians usually take Thalassius as a patron when they bear the name Thalassius at baptism, or were born or baptized near the feast on February 22. As a monastic, he is also asked for help in prayer, fasting, and repentance.
