Why they are a saint

Saint Theoktistos lived in the second half of the eighth century, during a period of widespread iconoclastic heresy. The Orthodox Church commemorates Theoctistus on January 4.

Patronage / why chosen as patron

Orthodox Christians usually take Theoctistus as a patron when they bear the name Theoctistus at baptism, or were born or baptized near the feast on January 4. As a monastic, he is also asked for help in prayer, fasting, and repentance.
