Why they are a saint

Although the commemoration of these saints is on August 29, their celebration was moved to August 3 because of the Feast of the Beheading of Saint John the Baptist. The Orthodox Church commemorates Theodora of Thessaloniki on August 29.

Patronage / why chosen as patron

Orthodox Christians usually take Theodora of Thessaloniki as a patron when they bear the name Theodora at baptism, or were born or baptized near the feast on August 29. Greek, pan-Orthodox Orthodox faithful also honor her as one of their own.
