Why they are a saint
The Holy Martyrs Theodore, Mianus (Ammianus), Julian and Kion (Oceanus) lived during the reign of Maximian (284-305)and were from the village of Quandababa (near Nicomedia). The Orthodox Church commemorates Theodore on September 4.
Patronage / why chosen as patron
Orthodox Christians usually take Theodore as a patron when they bear the name Theodore at baptism, or were born or baptized near the feast on September 4. As a martyr, he is also asked for courage and faithfulness under trial.
