Theodore the Sanctified

Venerable Theodore the Sanctified, disciple of Venerable Pachomius the Great

New Calendar May 16 Old Calendar May 29

Why they are a saint

He was born and raised an unbeliever, but came to faith in Christ as a young man. Not long after being baptised, he heard of Pachomius (May 15) and fled to join him in the desert. Saint Pachomius accepted Theodore as a monk and, because of his humility and obedience, came to esteem him most highly of all the brethren.

Patronage / why chosen as patron

Orthodox Christians usually take Theodore the Sanctified as a patron when they bear the name Theodore at baptism, or were born or baptized near the feast on May 16. As a monastic, he is also asked for help in prayer, fasting, and repentance.
