Why they are a saint
Saint Theodoritus left home and went to the Solovki Monastery when he was only thirteen years old. The following year he was tonsured and placed under obedience to the wise Father Zosimas. Venerated as a monastic saint, honored for a life of prayer and asceticism.
Patronage / why chosen as patron
Orthodox Christians usually take Theodoritus as a patron when they bear the name Theodoritus at baptism, or were born or baptized near the feast on August 17. As a monastic, he is also asked for help in prayer, fasting, and repentance.
