Why they are a saint

Our righteous Father Theodosius was born in 1009, not far from Kiev, and brought up in Kursk. From early childhood he showed the wisdom of an elder, avoiding childish games and refusing to wear anything but the poorest of clothing. When he was about thirteen years old, and his father died, he began to humble himself even more, going out to work with the serfs in the field.

Patronage / why chosen as patron

Orthodox Christians usually take Theodosius as a patron when they bear the name Theodosius at baptism, or were born or baptized near the feast on May 3. As a monastic, he is also asked for help in prayer, fasting, and repentance.

Prayer

O holy Theodosius, pray to God for us.
