New Calendar June 7 Old Calendar June 20

Why they are a saint

A secret Christian living in Ancyra, he would recover the bodies of the martyrs and give them honorable burial: it was he who buried the holy relics of the Virgin Martyrs Tecusa and her seven companions (May 8). The Orthodox Church commemorates Theodotus on June 7.

Patronage / why chosen as patron

Orthodox Christians usually take Theodotus as a patron when they bear the name Theodotus at baptism, or were born or baptized near the feast on June 7. As a martyr, he is also asked for courage and faithfulness under trial.
