Why they are a saint

The wondrous Thyrsus, and the godly-minded Callinicus, and the glorious Leucius” suffered for Christ in the persecution during the reign of Decius (249-251) in Cæsarea, Bithynia. The Orthodox Church commemorates Thyrsos on December 14.

Patronage / why chosen as patron

Orthodox Christians usually take Thyrsos as a patron when they bear the name Thyrsos at baptism, or were born or baptized near the feast on December 14. As a martyr, he is also asked for courage and faithfulness under trial.
