Why they are a saint

The Martyrs Thyrsus, Leucius, Coronatus, and their Companions suffered in Bythnian Caesarea and Apollonia under the emperor Decius (249-251). The Orthodox Church commemorates Thyrsus on August 17.

Patronage / why chosen as patron

Orthodox Christians usually take Thyrsus as a patron when they bear the name Thyrsus at baptism, or were born or baptized near the feast on August 17. As a martyr, he is also asked for courage and faithfulness under trial.
