Saint Tikhon, Bishop of Voronezh, Wonderworker of Zadonsk and All Russia

New Calendar August 13 Old Calendar August 26

Why they are a saint

As Bishop of Voronezh, Tikhon of Voronezh is numbered with the saints of the Church. Tikhon of Zadonsk was an 18th-century Russian Orthodox bishop and spiritual writer whom the Eastern Orthodox Church glorified as a saint in 1861. The calendar itself calls this saint a wonderworker, which is how the Church records that holiness. Orthodox Christians remember him as a hierarch who kept the apostolic faith in his see.

Patronage / why chosen as patron

Orthodox Christians usually take Tikhon of Voronezh as a patron when they bear the name Tikhon at baptism, or were born or baptized near the feast on August 13. As a bishop, he is also remembered by clergy and those who serve the Church.
