Why they are a saint
He was the son of humble, pious parents in Phrygia, and as supported himself keeping geese. At a very early age he was granted the gift of healing illnesses of man and animals, and driving out unclean spirits. Venerated as a martyr who died for the faith in Christ.
Patronage / why chosen as patron
Orthodox Christians usually take Trypho the Martyr as a patron when they bear the name Trypho at baptism, or were born or baptized near the feast on February 1. As a martyr, he is also asked for courage and faithfulness under trial.
