Why they are a saint

The Holy Martyrs Victor, Zoticus, Acindynus, Zeno, Severian and Caesarius suffered under the emperor Diocletian (284-305) when he began a fierce persecution against Christians. The Orthodox Church commemorates Victor on April 18.

Patronage / why chosen as patron

Orthodox Christians usually take Victor as a patron when they bear the name Victor at baptism, or were born or baptized near the feast on April 18. As a martyr, he is also asked for courage and faithfulness under trial.
