Why they are a saint

The Holy Martyress Agnes was born at Rome during the III Century. Her parents were Christians and they raised her in the precepts of the Christian faith. From her youthful years she devoted herself to God, and decided to dedicate herself to a life of virginity. Venerated as a virgin martyr who gave her life for Christ.

Patronage / why chosen as patron

Orthodox Christians usually take Virgin Martyr Agnes of Rome as a patron when they bear the name Virgin at baptism, or were born or baptized near the feast on January 21. As a martyr, she is also asked for courage and faithfulness under trial.
