Why they are a saint

Euthalia of Sicily was a third-century virgin and martyr from Leontini, Sicily. She is commemorated in the Eastern Orthodox and Byzantine Catholic Churches on 2 March and in the Roman Catholic Church on 27 August. Euthalia became a Christian after her mother, Saint Eutropia, was miraculously healed and converted.

Patronage / why chosen as patron

Orthodox Christians usually take Virgin Martyr Euthalia of Sicily as a patron when they bear the name Virgin at baptism, or were born or baptized near the feast on March 2. As a martyr, she is also asked for courage and faithfulness under trial.
