Why they are a saint

The Holy Martyrs Vitus, Modestus, and Crescentia suffered for Christ during the reign of Emperor Diocletian (284-305). The Orthodox Church commemorates Vitus on May 16.

Patronage / why chosen as patron

Orthodox Christians usually take Vitus as a patron when they bear the name Vitus at baptism, or were born or baptized near the feast on May 16. As a martyr, he is also asked for courage and faithfulness under trial.
