Why they are a saint
Saint Olympias the Deaconess was the daughter of the senator Anicius Secundus, and by her mother she was the granddaughter of the noted eparch Eulalios (he is mentioned in the life of Saint Nicholas). The Orthodox Church commemorates Woman Olympias on July 25.
Patronage / why chosen as patron
Orthodox Christians usually take Woman Olympias as a patron when they bear the name Woman at baptism, or were born or baptized near the feast on July 25. Greek Orthodox faithful also honor her as one of their own.
