Why they are a saint

Zacchaeus is the tax collector of Jericho in Luke's Gospel, who received Christ in his house and is numbered here among the apostles. Zacchaeus was a man, recorded in the Gospel of Luke, a chief tax-collector at Jericho. The faithful remember the apostles as the foundation of the Church's preaching.

Patronage / why chosen as patron

Orthodox Christians usually take Zacchaeus as a patron when they bear the name Zacchaeus at baptism, or were born or baptized near the feast on April 20. Those who share his calling as a missionary also ask his prayers.
