New Calendar February 13 Old Calendar February 26

Why they are a saint

The Monk Martinian at age 18 settled into the wilderness, somewhat off from the city of Palestinian Cæsarea, where he dwelt in ascetic deeds and silence for 25 years, and he was granted a graced gift of healing illness. The Orthodox Church commemorates Zoe on February 13.

Patronage / why chosen as patron

Orthodox Christians usually take Zoe as a patron when they bear the name Zoe at baptism, or were born or baptized near the feast on February 13. As a monastic, she is also asked for help in prayer, fasting, and repentance.

Prayer

O holy Zoe, pray to God for us.
