Why they are a saint
Dometian, a prince and a fierce persecutor of Christians, was hunting in the mountains when he came upon an old man surrounded by wild beasts, who were as gentle and tame as lambs in his presence. The Orthodox Church commemorates Zosimas the Hermit of Cilicia on September 19.

Orthodox Christians usually take Zosimas the Hermit of Cilicia as a patron when they bear the name Zosimas at baptism, or were born or baptized near the feast on September 19. As a martyr, he is also asked for courage and faithfulness under trial.
